Chiang Mai: ethical elephants, and the Sunday Walking Street

If you want to see elephants, choose a sanctuary where there's no riding, no shows, and no bathing with the animals; the good ones keep visitors at a distance and let the elephants be elephants. In the city, the Sunday Walking Street market along Ratchadamnoen Road fills the old town with crafts and food from late afternoon. Doi Suthep temple is best early; the songthaew red trucks go up from the zoo.
