Petra: two days, the back trail, and the Monastery in the afternoon

Petra is much bigger than the Treasury, and one day covers only the main valley; take two. Enter at opening to walk the Siq nearly alone, then climb to the Monastery (800 steps) in the afternoon when the light hits it. The trail to the High Place of Sacrifice and the viewpoint above the Treasury are worth the effort; the Bedouin stalls at the top sell tea. "Petra by Night" is a candlelit walk, atmospheric but crowded. Little Petra, nearby, is free and quiet.
