The bakery is breakfast, and the beer garden lets you bring food

German bakeries open early and sell dozens of breads and rolls; a "belegtes Brötchen" (a filled roll) and a coffee is the local breakfast on the go. In Bavaria's beer gardens, tradition allows you to bring your own food to the tables without tablecloths; you buy the beer there. Order a "Maß" for a liter or a "Halbe" for half. At restaurants, tip by rounding up and telling the server the total when you pay, rather than leaving coins on the table.
