Cheap pleasures in a pricey country: harbor baths, bakeries, tap water
Denmark

1/3
Denmark is pricey for restaurants and alcohol, so eat the way Danes do between splurges: a bakery "rundstykke" or cardamom bun for breakfast, smørrebrød at a counter at lunch, supermarket food for picnics. The harbor baths at Islands Brygge and the beaches at Amager are free swimming in clean water; the national museums have free days, and Copenhagen's parks and Christiania cost nothing. Tap water is excellent. Tipping isn't expected; service is included.
