The bread, olives, and cheese that land on your table when you sit down are the "couvert," and they're charged per item you touch; send back what you don't want and nobody minds. The "prato do dia" at lunch is the value meal. Grilled fish is sold by weight; ask the price. Coffee is an espresso ("um café"), and a pastel de nata is a breakfast, not a dessert. Tipping is a few coins or rounding up.
