Hurricane season prices, and the guesthouses in town

June through November is hurricane season, with the highest risk in August to October; prices drop sharply then, and most days are fine, but buy travel insurance with weather cover. December to April is dry and expensive. Staying in a guesthouse or apartment in Las Terrenas, Cabarete, or Bayahibe rather than an all-inclusive costs far less and puts you in a real town with real food; the beaches are public and often better than the resort strips.
