Bandeja paisa, arepas by region, and the fruit you've never heard of

Bandeja paisa, the Medellín platter of beans, rice, ground beef, chicharrón, egg, plantain, and avocado, is a dare more than a lunch. Arepas change by region: thin and plain in Antioquia, cheese-filled in Bogotá, stuffed and fried on the coast. The "menú del día" or "corrientazo" lunch is a soup, a main, and juice for a couple of dollars. The fruit stands are the revelation: lulo, guanábana, granadilla, and maracuyá juices. Colombian coffee is finally good in Colombia; the specialty cafés are everywhere.
