Lángos, goulash as a soup, and the market hall's upper floor

Hungarian goulash ("gulyás") is a soup, not the stew foreigners expect; the stew is pörkölt. Lángos, fried dough with sour cream and cheese, is the street snack. The Great Market Hall's ground floor sells paprika and salami to tourists at tourist prices; the upper floor has food stalls, and the smaller Hold Street and Fény Street markets are where locals shop. Tokaji aszú is the famous sweet wine; Egri Bikavér is the red. Tipping is 10–15%, often already on the bill as a service charge; check.
