Borneo: orangutans and the climb up Kinabalu

Malaysian Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak) is a different trip from the peninsula. In Sabah, the Sepilok rehabilitation center near Sandakan shows orangutans at feeding times, and the Kinabatangan river lodges offer proboscis monkeys and hornbills from a boat. Mount Kinabalu's two-day climb needs a permit and a guide booked well ahead through the park's concession; the slots go months in advance. Sarawak's Bako National Park, near Kuching, is an easy day of wildlife.
