The milk bar: a full lunch for a few złoty

A "bar mleczny" (milk bar) is a surviving communist-era canteen serving pierogi, soups, cutlets, and pancakes at prices that barely changed with the century. Order at the counter, pay, and take the ticket to the hatch; menus are in Polish, so photograph it and translate. Kraków's and Warsaw's remaining ones (Bar Mleczny Pod Barbakanem, Prasowy) are institutions. Pierogi "ruskie" (potato and cheese) are the classic; zapiekanka, a baguette pizza, is the late-night street food.
