Don't eat while walking, and plan for the missing trash cans

Eating on the move is considered bad manners in Japan; people finish their street food standing next to the stall, then move on. Public trash cans are rare, so carry a small bag for your wrappers and drop them at a convenience store bin or back at your hotel. Trains are quiet spaces too: phone calls are frowned on, and most people keep conversations low.
