  Don’t underestimate the hills

  Some streets around the university are much steeper than they look on the map. Comfortable shoes make a big difference.

  Don’t only look for restaurants. Small neighborhood pastelarias are great for coffee, pastries and a cheap breakfast, especially in the morning.

  Skip taxis in the old town

  Coimbra is very walkable, so I rarely use a taxi in the center. Bring comfortable shoes though — the hills are no joke 😅

  Walk along the Mondego at sunset

  If you have a free evening in Coimbra, walk along the Mondego River around sunset. It’s much quieter than the main tourist spots, and it’s one of my favorite places for a slow walk.
