Riyadh: the metro is new, ride apps are cheap, and distances are long

Riyadh's metro opened recently and connects the airport, the business district, and the city center; it's clean, air-conditioned, and inexpensive. Outside the metro lines, the city is built for cars, so ride-hailing apps (Uber, Careem) are the practical way around and cost less than in Europe. Walking between sights isn't realistic in the heat for much of the year. Jeddah's corniche and Al-Balad are the main places that reward exploring on foot, in the evening.
