From May to October, typhoons can shut the city for a day: when the Signal 8 is hoisted, transport stops, shops close, and flights are cancelled, then everything restarts within hours of the all-clear. Mainland Chinese holiday weeks (early May, early October, Chinese New Year) bring huge crowds to Disneyland, the Peak, and the shopping districts, and hotel prices jump; book around them.
