Amsterdam: the bike lane is not a sidewalk
The red-paved lanes belong to cyclists, who ride fast and expect you to stay out of them; stepping into one to take a photo of a canal is how most tourist injuries happen. Look both ways at every crossing, including for trams and scooters. If you rent a bike, ride on the right, signal with your arm, and never leave it unlocked; use both locks and attach it to something fixed. Cycling drunk or with a phone in hand can get you fined.
