Wadi Rum: the Bedouin camp, not the hotel-style bubble
Wadi Rum's desert is visited by jeep tour from the village, and the best experience is a night in a Bedouin camp booked with a local family operator, with dinner cooked in a sand oven (zarb), tea by the fire, and the stars; the "luxury bubble" camps are comfortable but separate you from the place. Camel treks are slow and worth an hour, not a day. Dress modestly, bring a warm layer (desert nights are cold even in summer), and ask before photographing people.
