Dollars and riel, both at once

Cambodia uses US dollars for anything over a dollar and riel for small change, at a fixed 4,000 to the dollar; you'll pay in dollars and get riel back. Bring clean, untorn US notes, because damaged bills are refused, and avoid $100 bills. ATMs dispense dollars with a fee. Dress modestly at temples (covered shoulders and knees are enforced at Angkor), and take shoes off in homes and some shops. The Khmer greeting is a slight bow with palms together.
