Coloane village and the Taipa houses, away from the Strip

The resorts are one Macao; the other is the UNESCO old town around Senado Square and the Ruins of St. Paul's, and beyond it the sleepy south. Coloane Village has a yellow chapel on a quiet square, a waterfront of stilt houses, and Hac Sa beach a bus ride away; the Taipa-Houses Museum's green colonial villas sit on a lotus pond. The Guia Fortress lighthouse and the A-Ma Temple are the oldest corners, and both are free.
