Torres del Paine: the W trek needs refuges booked months ahead

The W trek in Torres del Paine takes four to five days, and the refuges and campsites along it (run by two concessions) must be booked, often months ahead for the December to February season; you can't camp freely. Day visitors can reach the base of the towers in a long day from the park entrance. Puerto Natales is the base town with gear rental. Weather turns in minutes; carry layers and a real rain shell even in summer. Park entry is bought online.
